In the context of the challenges faced by Malayalam Language and Culture under the onslaught of globalization, Inter University Centre for Malayalam Language (IUCML) was conceived as a centre for the promotion of innovative research in Malayalam Literature, as well as to modernise Malayalam Language. It aims to bring about a renaissance in Malayalam Language, which has been in existence for thousands of years and has been spoken by more than three crore people. IUCML, while being committed to preserve the heritage of literature, printed books, journals and Films in Malayalam, also aims to introduce the rich heritage to modern generation. The Centre undertakes the responsibility of protecting and preserving the tradition of Malayalam Literature, while attempting to modernise the language in the context of the advent of electronic media and computing. IUCML aims to work with Universities and cultural institutions in India and abroad to fulfil its goals.
